Indonesia is the biggest Moslem country in the world. Thus, within a year, Ramadhan is one of the most festive moments celebrated by its people. As we have learned from foreign friends and online forums, travelers and tourist often wonder what Ramadhan is, what happens during the month and what happens by the end of the month. So I’ll try to pack it up a little bit, understating all that is happening of course, and also explain how all of this partying can apply to your travels.

It has become a usual thing for me to come on to Jakarta on a plane. It’s a consequence of working in remote areas and for living in an archipelago. I don’t really pay that much attention to the view coming in this big city since most of the time I despise it. It’s a city that is polluted, crowded, expensive and chaotic (I actually really like this last element :P). Seeing it from the air, usually makes me a bit nauseas as I am coming from paradises to THE city. So usually I skip sight...

We got back from our 17-day Sulawesi trip a month ago. Overall, it was one of the best trips I’ve had so far. Many of the places we went to were amazing, some turned out to be lower than what I’d expected. But for me personally, the most highlight of this trip was that I (along with my travel mates Mumun & Reno) mingled with other travelers as well.

After a whole month of fasting for the moslems, hence the absence of many holiday trips since they outnumber any other kinds of Indonesians, trip organizers are back to promoting their trips that will happen starting next month and maybe even late in this month. One of the most favorite destinations would be: Karimun Jawa, Central Java.

Tana Toraja is truly a land of the dead. Not only does it preserve the remains of its dead, the people also preserve the remains of its kill. You maybe quite aware that they preserve the horn, counting to the most prestigious with quantity but look around the corner of their traditional houses and you will find what I’m talking about smiling at you. For some reason, which I intend to find out, they clean the jaw bones with teeth intact and display them besides their houses. It’s definitely a...

Ok, I’m guilty for constantly borrowing a dear friends rucksack for a few years back on travels that requires one. It was about time I had a new one. So I did. For the Sulawesi trip I decided I should get my own pack. I don’t really like shopping for important things because it has to be based on a lot of considerations and it gives me headaches, but luckily I had a good friend that understand these things to help. Enough! Here’s what I got and hopefully it would help you if you happen to be...

See that beauty down there? It's an island in the Sumur Village, Banten Province. Indonesia has 17,000 (or more) islands including the very small and unoccupied ones like this Badul Island. It's a choice to go off the beaten track and the beach is there for you to lie down and tan all day long...

To those that have traveled Indonesia during the celebration of our Independence day, congratulations! You have just saw one of the most festive days of the year simultaneously celebrated throughout our country. Our independence falls on the 17th of August. On this merry day, we have morning ceremonies which, if you're lucky, could be decorated with traditional dances and singing. This applies especially in remote areas. There are also countless flags and items painted in red and white as...

Legend says that this 4 m tall megalith is about 500 years old. It symbolized some kind of a royal at that time, others said it is - as the word Palindo itself means - the entertainer. But until now, people are still guessing and archeologists are still studying about its existence. Located in Bada Valley, a part of Lore Lindu National Park, Central Sulawesi, we were two of the few people in the world who have seen him directly. Even most Indonesians haven't even heard about...
