Who has a habit of taking nearby places for granted? Me.

Who’s proud of that habit? Not me.

Similar to what I told you on my Kiluan Bay trip a while ago, I had taken for granted living my college years in Bandung by not taking a short trip to Kawah Putih (White Crater) that’s just a stone’s throw away from the city. But it’s never too late to catch up! Fortunately, Diyan was willing to go with me cos he’s never been there either. Being a Jakarta captive for the week, we could only break out for one whole day, and that was enough for a brief visit to Kawah Putih.

Travel Indonesia - Kawah Putih

How to get there

Assuming you’re starting from Jakarta by public transportation:

-       take a bus to Leuwi Panjang bus terminal, Bandung.

-       Take a minivan (Elf or L300) from Leuwi Panjang to Ciwidey, then take the yellow angkot from Ciwidey to Kawah Putih. Or charter an angkot at Leuwi Panjang to go directly to Kawah Putih.

-       Walk up from the gate to the crater or get on the shuttle car.

Activity

-       sight seeing

-       photo hunt

Eat

-       numerous diners on the way to Kawah Putih, especially in the terminal areas

-       definitely no eating around the crater

The darnest thing about this waterfall is that you can’t swim in it. Super gushing water falling off its wall will tease you to get wet, but the fact is it’s a bit too dangerous to do so. Ironically, you will get wet leaving it. The climb back up the hill to where your off-road rental motorcycle is parked will leave you slightly drenched. Another irony for me was I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere when in fact, I was in one of the densest province of Indonesia. Go figure! However, the view was nothing ironic. It was spectacular! Every step and every turn was picture perfect.  Although I went on an organized trip, which isn’t my cup of tea, I’m so glad I got to see the beautiful Curug (waterfall) Malela, the Niagara Falls of Indonesia!

travel Indonesia - West Java

Activity

After entering the heart of West Java, a little down hill walk, a little daydreaming at the waterfall, a little hike back is what you will do on this trip.

How to get there

Join an organized trip as I did with @tukang_jalan or go public. From Ciroyom-Bandung take the public bus to Bunijaya. Once in the village, ask for an off road ojeg to the waterfall which will cost you about IDR 50,000 – 75,000 /pax.

A diving certificate is like a gym membership: once you have it, you have to do it (unless wasting money is not a problem to you). It was coming in to the 4th month after my last dive thus it was time to dive again. Last time I didn’t dive for so long ended me crashing into the corals beneath me :( *sound of bowling pins falling. So, a few friends and I decided to refresh our diving skills (yeah I got skills!) in a simple trip to the Jakarta’s favorite escape, 1000 islands. We went diving and we relaxed. In the end, to my surprise, I enjoyed the trip more than I bargained for.

It’s rare that we’re splitting an entry only dedicated about food. You’ve probably read the first part  - and if you haven’t, you should – and now here’s more. Any increase in your bodyweight triggered by tempting food in these stories are not, in any way, our responsibility :D

Travel Indonesia - Semarang

Who loves to eat, say aye! “Aye…!”

Aha, you’re with us, then! Cos one of our itinerary in Semarang was to ‘nom nom’ on whatever local food we could get our hands on. It was pretty challenging since Mom texted me on departure date, “Watch your weight!” But diet starts tomorrow. Meanwhile, we splurged ourselves on the various delish food Semarang is known to serve. Too many to tell in just one entry, we’re splitting the food story of Semarang in two parts.
